Written after rehearsals with Crumbling Jack, a band I was in. Alan Reid, the founder, made a comment and this is what came from it

We turn up for the gig

Anticipation high

Worked hard for weeks

In rehearsalWhere sets were arranged

And arranged againIs the structure right?

We think it is

Up ‘til this momentIt really has been fun

Playing out the scenes

Of poetry and songKnowing that….

They are good

Or Are they?

We think they are

In our minds

We have heard

The laughter

The sing along

The applause

Then at the end

They want more

We think they will

Back to the here

And the now

Gear set up

Sound checks done

Lights go up

The first chord rings out

Lilting into the song

Then the spoken word

Poetic with haunting beauty

Another song, a story

We think this is great

It goes on following

Similar patterns

Rising to a crescendo

Then bring them down a bit

Level out

Lift again

Raise the tempo and pace

All the way to the end

Final chorus

Silence…….

The dress rehearsal is over

But…

We were Legends in our own empty room
